Developmental Rubrics

Current Families

What are Developmental Rubrics?

Developmental Rubrics show a clear progression of actions, skills and knowledge and make learning visible for students and teachers. Developmental rubrics:

  • ensure assessment feedback shows what a student has achieved.
  • show students what their next steps in learning are.
  • grant students a greater sense of agency in their learning by highlighting how to achieve the next step.

A rubric describes the progression of knowledge and skills for a piece of work. You could also think of this as what an assessment piece ‘looks like’ at each level. Rubrics show what we expect in student work, not what is lacking.

Accessing Growth Feedback

How can you support your child?

Parents can support their children in several ways:

  • At the beginning of each unit ask your child to explain what is on the rubric and where they are currently in their learning.
  • Use the progression on the rubric to help your child identify the next step in their learning.
  • When your child receives their Learning task feedback, get them to show you where they have grown on the rubric and identify their next steps for growth.
