Wellbeing and Connection

Future Students

The Preston High School Mentor Program has an impact on both academic achievement and overall student wellbeing. It supports students in developing confidence, self-esteem, resilience and goal setting as well as the skills needed to be successful in everyday life. Furthermore, it supports the educational and personal growth of our students, with a key foundation being the establishment of positive relationships.

Daily Mentor Sessions

Mentor groups meet for 10 minutes each day with their Mentor who is, wherever possible, a teacher of another course that the mentor group takes.

The purpose of daily Mentor sessions is to connect, take stock and plan ahead. Daily Mentor Sessions provide students with the opportunity to develop connections with their peers and refine their study habits and organisational skills. The Mentor curriculum also creates a safe place for students to express their concerns and proactively plan ahead to manage workload to achieve their individual goals.

Each term there is a focus during Mentor on one of the Preston High School Growth Habits and there is a set curriculum with themes each day.

wellbeing days

Wellbeing days at Preston High School are specifically designed to build collaboration, resilience and a shared sense of community. Activities run on these days are chosen according to the needs of the cohort. Past activities have included silent discos, wheelchair basketball, team challenges, African drumming and special guest speakers.
