The study of languages prepares young people for a future work and civic life in a globally connected world.

Students at Preston High School learn how to learn a language and understand cultures in order that they can participate confidently in future unfamiliar environments. Through this, Preston High School students are empowered to be future international leaders. Additionally, the language program extends students’ literacy and their capacity to communicate. Uniquely for a new school, and demonstrating our commitment to internationalising students’ experiences, Preston High School teaches two languages: French and Mandarin Chinese. This provides access to both a European and an Asian language and to alphabetic and character-based language. Learning how to learn languages and how to be confident in international contexts has more than ever become socially relevant as communication links are forged between different cultures in a global context.
