Hip-hop fairy tale One The Bear was an inspiring focus for a day of creativity in and around the Arts Centre. One The Bear is a unique blend of dance, projections and rhyme which provoked students to consider ideas about discrimination and power in society.

This play links with our work in English this term and the upcoming Writer’s Workshops with author Kate Mildenhall. With Kate, students will be supported to develop their own contemporary fairy tales with updated morals and messages.

In the second half of the excursion, students had the time and space to develop landscape drawings of the Yarra at Birrarung Marr; perspective drawings of Federation Square and engage with street art in Hosier Lane. It was a fantastic opportunity to utilise their skills from Visual Art in a different setting and the results were amazing.
